ID Austria (formerly Handy-Signatur) is one of the providers in the country list, and it is also the route swipesign uses automatically once your identity has been verified. Either way the flow is the same.

Why it sometimes skips the provider list
If swipesign already knows your identity has been checked, because you verified with WebID, or you sign in to swipesign with ID Austria yourself, there is nothing left to choose. The country and provider screen is skipped and ID Austria opens directly.
That is the point of verifying once: the second document is quicker than the first.
The two screens
ID Austria asks twice, and the second prompt catches people out because it looks like the first one repeating.
- 1Sign in. Your mobile number and password, then approval in the ID Austria app or by TAN.
- 2Authorise the signature. A second approval, this time bound to this specific document. It is not a retry: it is the signature itself.
Between the two, swipesign prepares the document for your certificate. Where several people are signing, your signature is built on top of theirs rather than replacing them, which is why this step exists at all.
Which number and password
If you set ID Austria up yourself with the Austrian authorities rather than through swipesign, use those credentials as normal.
If you cancel or it fails
Closing the ID Austria screen or cancelling on it brings you back to the provider list, where you can pick something else or start again. Nothing is signed and nothing is recorded as a signature.
A genuine failure, rather than a cancellation, sends you to a page saying so. The document is untouched; open your link again and retry.
