swipesign doesn't verify identities itself and doesn't issue certificates. Under eIDAS it can't: that work has to be done by a qualified trust service provider on the EU Trusted List. We run the signing process and hand the identity step to providers who hold that status.
Which is the point. Your signature doesn't depend on us being trustworthy. It depends on a regulated provider whose certificates anyone can validate independently.
Who does what
| Provider | Role |
|---|---|
| A-Trust | Austrian qualified trust service provider: issues qualified certificates and powers ID Austria / Handy-Signatur |
| IDV WebID | Online identity verification for signers who have no national eID: video and automated document checks |
| eID Easy | Connects the wider European network of national eIDs and qualified signature services |
National eIDs you can sign with
More than forty, across Europe and beyond: ID Austria, Smart-ID, itsme, MitID, BankID, SPID, eParaksts and the rest. If you already hold one, signing takes seconds and there is no document check to do.
If a signer has none of them
They verify online instead. A short video or automated check against a government-issued photo ID, and a signature certificate is created for them on the spot. It adds a few minutes the first time and nothing after that. See Verifying your identity online with WebID.
